Welcome

Fiona Donald’s focus finds its roots in observation; what is seen; lived with; and felt over time. Her practice follows the rhythms and cycles of the natural world, working from direct experience. Walking, drawing, looking, collecting. Responding through haptic drawing, ground plant pigments and paint to capture pathways, trajectories, tracing the movement of passing time.

For Donald there is a need to be involved in a physical relationship to the subject. She is drawn to specific motifs and recurring subject matter. The act of drawing lies at the heart of what she does, it has become a way of reaching out and finding a direction, it has been a means of establishing critical connections with re-occurring motifs, and given her new ways of seeing, and consequently new ways of making.

Fiona has an M.A in Fine Art from Manchester Metropolitan University and has taken part in exhibitions throughout Europe and the North West. She is a member of Suite Studio Group in Salford and a lecturer at The Manchester College.
